“Obedience is the great test of life.” – Thomas S. Monson

Reflection:
Obedience is the great test of life because it reflects your true identity. It reflects how you treat other and how other will treat you. Obedience can be shown in the way you act or speak to others. Your obedience will be rewarded not with what you want but with what you deserve. Obedience takes hard work but in the end it’ll be worth it. Obedience can gain trust and respect from other towards you. It takes all of you to be obedient in everything you do but you won’t regret it. Choose the right in everything you do no matter what others think.

“Courage is being scared to death and doing the right thing anyway.” –Chae Richardson

Reflection: courage to me means to stand up when everyone else is too scared to stand for the right decision. Courage is that tiny voice in our heads that we tend to ignore when we know were going to do something wrong. You might be scared to stand up for what you believe is right but you don’t know the difference it can make. The decision to stand up for what is right can lead for even more than you expected to stand up with you, it takes a courageous one to lead the rest. Be the leader of those who are too afraid to speak up and teach them to have courage as well. We all have fears, and we all need to overcome them with courage. If you only knew what you’re scared of, will actually make you stronger. Fear is a word that stays deep in our minds and doesn’t let our potential show. You’re stronger than you think. Choose the right.

Abraham’s Lincoln’s Act of Integrity

Reflection:
This video was about when Abraham Lincoln was traveling with a man, who offered him first whiskey then tobacco. Lincoln denied both and explained to the man that he made a promise to his mom since he was 9 years old. His mom was ill and was told she wasn’t going to get better, she told Lincoln to promise her that he would never use whiskey or tobacco. The man was surprised about his promise and apologized.

I believe that Lincoln had the courage to keep his promise and I admire him. Nowadays we make promises out of nowhere without an actual act of keeping them. We make a promise but since we keep it in our mind instead of our heart we easily forget and break it. Many make promises like Lincoln did about not smoking or drinking, but since there is more peer-pressure than courage nowadays it’s easy to break the promise and begin to drink and smoke. It’s all a matter of decision, it’s our choice to make promises and keep them and not just think about them one day and break them the next day. I myself have promised that I would not drink or smoke ever in my life, but I can admit that I have been offered but I’ve always said no because I need to keep my promise that I did not only for myself, but for my family. When I keep a promise I try my best to keep it, and most of the time I do because I want someone to promise me something and keep it as well. Choose the right.

“Kindness is the essence of greatness” – Joseph B. Wirthlin

Reflection: when a person chooses to do something with kindness and really mean it, it shows that the person has a great heart. People who are the kind tend to do things without anything in return but in the end they receive something way better. Being kind should be everyone’s priority because it will lead you to greatness. Many find it hard to be kind because they have hatred in their hearts and all that hatred leads them to failure, nowhere in life. Being kind is the best someone can be; kindness can change a person’s life. Choose the right and always be kind.

“Manners maketh man.” – William of Wykeham

Reflection: When a person has manners its shows who they really are. Having manners is important because it gives others an idea of how we act with them. Manners are to show how respectful we are to someone else. Manners are what show others that we know how to treat others right. We sometimes forget to use our manners like saying excuse me, please, and thank you. It is important to have manners to show that we are respectful people. Manners make us man, because unlike animals they don’t have manners so we need manners to show that we are humans. Choose the right.

“Right is right, even if everyone is against it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone is for it.” –William Penn

Reflection: I believe that doing what is right doesn't always satisfy every individual; maybe it’s doing wrong that satisfies them. I can personally agree with this quote because I have personally seen or pretty much been through this where sometimes I'm the only one that wants to do what’s right while everyone does wrong. I pretty much go against the crowd when it comes to choosing the right because I know the consequences that will turn out for me. Even though it may seem that no one is with you when deciding what is right, it’s usually the fear of other to get out of the little “popular” crowd because they fear what they are going to say about them. I don't know how I do it when it comes to not going along with the crowd because they might say I’m different but I know that I’m the brave one to be myself and to not let anyone else control my decisions. I try my best to choose the right and it doesn't bother me if I’m the only one choosing it because I know a God that has given me discernment to know what the right thing to do.

“Cowardice asks the question ‘Is it safe?’                                                              Expediency asks the question ‘Is it politic?’
Vanity asks the question ‘Is it popular?’

But, conscience asks the question, ‘Is it right?’

And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because one’s conscience tells one that it is right.                      –Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Reflection:

Sometimes we ask ourselves these questions in certain situations, but the real question we should ask ourselves is 'is it right?', ‘are we brave enough’. Are we really brave enough to actually do what’s right even if it’s not popular? We tend to go with the crowd just to be accepted but we need to know that what is popular is wrong and what no one does is right. We need courage to choose the right and ask questions that will uplift us and give us a feeling to keep fighting and moving forward. Keep walking forward and never look back. Choose the right.

“The reward for doing right is mostly an internal phenomenon: self-respect, dignity, integrity, and self-esteem.” – Dr. Laura Schlessinger

Reflection:

There is always a reward when we do right, it’s not always a material or an object but it can be a good feeling in us that can be enough as our reward. Choosing the right can increase your self-respect, dignity, integrity, and self-esteem. We should never doubt in our potential because then all of these emotions will disappear. Choose the right in every situation because you know the reward you will win first from within. Choose the right.

“Your worth consists in what you are and not in what you have.”
 –Thomas Edison, Inventor

Reflection: the world that we live in today has conditioned us to think that the value of an individual consists of what they have, when in reality it’s based on who they are. People see more value in money, cars, gold, diamonds, clothing, shoes, and houses. They prefer to live of the material of this world instead of a gift that God has given us, our lives. With so much distraction of wanting material, we tend to forget the true value in ourselves, which is worth more than any material or object. We are worth more than any money or riches can buy. Each one of you is a different individual with a different value and you show your value in the way you speak and act. Don’t forget the value in you, we are all princesses and princes’ of God and no one or anything can make us more or less than how God created us. Be yourself even if everyone goes against you, know that there is someone who accepts you and wouldn't change you, he made you who you are, don’t change for someone else, He is God. Be the true you J. Choose the right.

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.” –Mother Teresa

Reflection: Kind words are those that sound simple and short but the meaning to us is endless. Kind words can help someone to better their day no matter how bad their feeling. Kind words are those that lift you up when you’re at your lowest. Kind words all mean differently to a person but that feeling is never forgotten. I have personally have been at my lowest and someone says something kind to me that might have been simple to them but those words made my day. We should always try to be kind to everyone around us no matter if you know them or not because you don’t know the difference you can make in someone’s life with a kind word.

"It's not the will to win, but the will to PREPARE to win that makes the difference." -Paul Bear Bryant

Reflection: Many people think that winning is everything but in reality they don't understand what was the real reason why they won. The way they prepared themselves and practiced everyday was what helped them win. their determination and working as a team is what helps you accomplish your dream or wish. for example if you know you have a test and you are determined to get an "A" than you have to do whatever it takes to get prepared. If you study everyday before the test, you will see result when you get your test back with a great grade and you will realize that all that hard work paid off. Prepare yourself for the challenges in life and you will be able to get up with courage and be the difference and reach your goals.

“Righteous community unity starts with ONE upright soul, whether it is a community of family members, students, neighbors, teammates, or business associates. Unity conquers worthy pursuits more quickly and with less effort than individual effort alone.” –Mr. Haymore

Reflection:
It takes the courage of one person to stand up for unity. The rest will follow if they have the desire for unity. One small step can make a big change. Be the difference and stand up for what you want. Work together and you will succeed.
