“You
can’t hire someone else to do your push-ups for you” – Jim Rohn
Reflection:
We choose our goals
because we are going to pursue them. It must be us who pursue our own goals; it’s
up to us not anybody else. We as people always try to depend on others to do
things for us but in reality your friend isn’t going to reach your life goal,
you must do it. We must take the step of courage and go after our goals and
just try to send someone else while we’re in our comfort zone. We need to stand
up and take action for our goals. For example I can’t make my friend do my
homework just to get a good grade, I need the practice. I’m not going to send
someone to go to college and study my profession for me. I can’t make someone
go and work for me and earn the money for me. I must believe that I am capable
of reaching my goal and take that step of saying I won’t give up until I succeed.
Everyone is capable of reaching their goals if they put their mind and effort
to it. Choose the right.

Abraham’s Lincoln’s Act of Integrity
Reflection:
This video was about when Abraham Lincoln was
traveling with a man, who offered him first whiskey then tobacco. Lincoln denied
both and explained to the man that he made a promise to his mom since he was 9
years old. His mom was ill and was told she wasn’t going to get better, she
told Lincoln to promise her that he would never use whiskey or tobacco. The man
was surprised about his promise and apologized.
I believe that Lincoln had the courage to keep
his promise and I admire him. Nowadays we make promises out of nowhere without
an actual act of keeping them. We make a promise but since we keep it in our mind
instead of our heart we easily forget and break it. Many make promises like
Lincoln did about not smoking or drinking, but since there is more
peer-pressure than courage nowadays it’s easy to break the promise and begin to
drink and smoke. It’s all a matter of decision, it’s our choice to make promises
and keep them and not just think about them one day and break them the next day.
I myself have promised that I would not drink or smoke ever in my life, but I can
admit that I have been offered but I’ve always said no because I need to keep
my promise that I did not only for myself, but for my family. When I keep a
promise I try my best to keep it, and most of the time I do because I want
someone to promise me something and keep it as well. Choose the right.

“There is not giant step that does it. It’s a lot of little
steps.” –Anon
Reflection:
Our life is a
journey and we each have a goal to accomplish. Many don’t understand that to
reach a goal it takes more than just one step; it requires more than you can
imagine. The reason why it takes so many small steps is because every step is
preparing us for our goal. Each step might seem harder as we go but in reality
one step makes us stronger to overcome the next one. All we need to do is to
persist even in the toughest situations in our lives, which will try to stop us
or block our way of reaching the goal. We need strength, courage, a vision,
determination, and a positive attitude to know that a journey starts with one
step. On your journey just remember to say “I will persist until I succeed”. Don’t give up on your journey no matter how
impossible seems. Choose the right.

“Right is right, even if everyone is against it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone is for it.” –William Penn
Reflection: I believe that doing what is right doesn't always satisfy every individual;
maybe it’s doing wrong that satisfies them. I can personally agree with this
quote because I have personally seen or pretty much been through this where
sometimes I'm the only one that wants to do what’s right while everyone does
wrong. I pretty much go against the crowd when it comes to choosing the right
because I know the consequences that will turn out for me. Even though it may
seem that no one is with you when deciding what is right, it’s usually the fear
of other to get out of the little “popular” crowd because they fear what they
are going to say about them. I don't know how I do it when it comes to not
going along with the crowd because they might say I’m different but I know that
I’m the brave one to be myself and to not let anyone else control my decisions.
I try my best to choose the right and it doesn't bother me if I’m the only one
choosing it because I know a God that has given me discernment to know what the
right thing to do.

“Cowardice asks
the question ‘Is it safe?’ Expediency
asks the question ‘Is it politic?’
Vanity asks the
question ‘Is it popular?’
But, conscience
asks the question, ‘Is it right?’
And there comes
a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular,
but one must take it because one’s conscience tells one that it is right.
–Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Reflection:
Sometimes we ask
ourselves these questions in certain situations, but the real question we
should ask ourselves is 'is it right?', ‘are we brave enough’. Are we really brave enough to
actually do what’s right even if it’s not popular? We tend to go with the crowd
just to be accepted but we need to know that what is popular is wrong and what no
one does is right. We need courage to choose the right and ask questions that
will uplift us and give us a feeling to keep fighting and moving forward. Keep walking
forward and never look back. Choose the right.

“Your worth consists in what you are and not
in what you have.”
–Thomas
Edison, Inventor
Reflection: the world that we live in today has
conditioned us to think that the value of an individual consists of what they
have, when in reality it’s based on who they are. People see more value in
money, cars, gold, diamonds, clothing, shoes, and houses. They prefer to live
of the material of this world instead of a gift that God has given us, our
lives. With so much distraction of wanting material, we tend to forget the true
value in ourselves, which is worth more than any material or object. We are
worth more than any money or riches can buy. Each one of you is a different
individual with a different value and you show your value in the way you speak
and act. Don’t forget the value in you, we are all princesses and princes’ of
God and no one or anything can make us more or less than how God created us. Be
yourself even if everyone goes against you, know that there is someone who accepts
you and wouldn't change you, he made you who you are, don’t change for someone
else, He is God. Be the true you J. Choose the right.

“The difference between the impossible and the
possible lies in Determination”- Tommy Lasorda
Reflection:
The only thing that stops an individual from reaching a
goal/dream is the word “impossible”. If we could just stop focusing on what we
can’t do and focus on what we can do, so many goals/dreams would have been
already achieved. The word impossible is feared by those that don’t know the
potential they have. Fear is best friends with impossible because they both
stop a person from achieving or even starting something. For example, when i have lots of homework i still choose to stay up as late until i finish that homework for a good grade. It might
be extremely hard impossible for me to talk in front of a large group but all I
need to do is be determined to trust in God and he will give me courage and
take away all fear and show me what to say.Choose the right.

“Nothing in the
world can take the place of PERSISTENCE.
Ø
TALENT will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with
talent.
Ø
GENIUS will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Ø
EDUCATION will not; the
world is full of educated derelicts.
PERSISTENCE and
DETERMINATION alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘Press On’ has solved and always
will solve the problems of the human race.”
-President Calvin Coolidge
(30th president of U.S. 1872-1933)
Reflection:
Persistence is
the key to success and there can’t be anything to take its place. Many have
talent but are too afraid to use it, many are geniuses but are afraid to show
it, and many have education but don’t know what to use it for. The only way to
succeed in a goal is to first have determination to pursue it and no matter
what or who comes along to bring you down, you always have to be persistent. Persistence
is the voice that tell you to not give up when you what to throw in the towel. For
the fact that we think were not gonna make it, we start losing strength and
start giving up little by little. We all should have persistence in anything we
do but most of all have faith in ourselves.

“Never look to
the ground for your next step. Greatness belongs to those who look to the
horizon.” –Bud Greenspan
Reflection: one’s greatness comes to those
that keep their head up at all moments, no matter the situation. For someone to
look down, means that their ready to give up or their tired of the journey. The
problem that many have is their so close to getting to the finish line but they
start to murmur, give up, and let their tiredness of waiting stop them. When they
stop losing patience they start getting tired and think that there are so many
more steps when its only one left. In reality we let our minds take control
over us instead of our desire of finishing. We must never give up on the
journey of our life and no matter what happens, keep going, you will finish
greater than when you started.

“Physical fitness
is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body; it is the basis
of dynamic and creative intellectual activity. The relationship between the
soundness of the body and the activities of the mind is subtle and complex. Much
is not yet understood. But we do know what Greeks knew; that intelligence and
skill can only function at the peak of their capacity when the body is healthy
and strong.” –President
John F. Kennedy
Reflection:
Physical fitness
is the most important activity for a person to live healthy and strong. Without
physical fitness the body won’t know how to move and the body will only
function unless we are strong and healthy. This can be seen in reaching a goal,
how do you reach goal? You first must plan what you want to become, how you’re
going to achieve it and how hard are you going to work. You first must practice
the profession you want to achieve before taking on the real world. We must
feed ourselves in the way of surrounding ourselves with those who are positive
and will encourage you with your goal. Stay strong even though it might seem
hard because the harder it is the stronger and wiser you will become out of it.

Glenn Cunningham bio
Glenn Cunningham was a born in Atlanta,Kansas in August 4, 1909. as a young boy he and his brother were once in a fire because of a mistake of gasoline instead of kerosene which caused an explosion and caused Glenn legs to burn. Glenn received unbelievable burns and his transverse arch was completely destroyed but unfortunately his brother didn't make it and died. Doctors assumed that Glenn would never be able to walk normally again and even suggested to amputate his legs but Glenn's attitude was stronger than than anyone else. He believed and kept a positive attitude plus his religious faith towards his injuries and recovered with therapy in about 2 years. As time passed he began to walk and he tried and tried his best and he was able to run again. That's where his future began, he became one of the best Olympic runners, he set many records that were difficult for everyone. He was considered one of the greatest American miler of all time. He received the James E. Sullivan award as the top amateur athlete in the U.S. in 1933.
Reflection: this is a very inspiring story to know that he didn't give up even though the adversity that went to his life. This en-courageous me to never give up when an adversity comes into my life.

“The best inspiration is
not to outdo others, but to outdo ourselves.”-Anonymous author
Reflection: I personally agree s much
with this person because we need to inspire ourselves in the things we achieve.
Yes some think that outdoing others makes them feel better but it really doesn't it just makes you seem as someone that will always push others down and that’s not
very nice. We need to outdo ourselves to show that were stronger than what we used to be, that we can inspire ourselves to not give up to keep going in life
because we each have our story and sometimes we need to hear these words from
other someone else but the most
inspiring words come from our own mouth. We need to strong and
courageous and never give up in any situation were in. remember to outdo yourself
first before you outdo others or someone outdoes you. Be stronger than the
person you were yesterday.

Restoring Faith Humanity
Reflection:
This
video impacts me to see what brave people there are in this world. There are so
many situations that many don't have the courage to help others, but then there
are those that no matter the situation they will sacrifice their time or even their
life to save someone else. It’s good to know that there are brave people out in
this world. We should all try to let our courage out to be brave and help
others to change the world. We all have courage within us but sometimes we have
more fear than courage and that fear stops us from actually being brave in
difficult situations. We must let go of the fear to become great brave people
and help others. There must be compassion within us to help others and we
should all learn how to give to those who are less fortunate because there is a
joy in giving. We need faith, courage, strength, unity, and compassion to save
this world together.

Reflection: when wanting to achieve excellence we must stop what we
know that we are doing wrong and start to do what’s right. To pursue excellence
we must let go of what stops us from choosing the right thing to do, this can
include our friends, peers, fear, weakness or even ourselves. There must be a
determination to reach excellence. A pact must be done to remember what you’re
fighting for. Keep trying your best to do excellent work and even if you fail
once get back up and try again, don’t ever let anybody bring you down or stop
you for what you’re pursuing. Follow your dreams with perseverance and hope. Don’t
give up. Choose the Right!

"It's not the will to win, but the will to PREPARE to win that makes the difference." -Paul Bear Bryant
Reflection: Many people think that winning is everything but in reality they don't understand what was the real reason why they won. The way they prepared themselves and practiced everyday was what helped them win. their determination and working as a team is what helps you accomplish your dream or wish. for example if you know you have a test and you are determined to get an "A" than you have to do whatever it takes to get prepared. If you study everyday before the test, you will see result when you get your test back with a great grade and you will realize that all that hard work paid off. Prepare yourself for the challenges in life and you will be able to get up with courage and be the difference and reach your goals.
