Duties and Responsibilities:
Oriental medicine practitioners use forms of
acupuncture and treatment through the Chinese concept of “qi”, which means
energy. They treat a variety of aliments including headaches, back pain,
arthritis, and other illnesses by identifying patterns of imbalance within the
body’s energy levels. Oriental medicine techniques include acupuncture,
cupping, acupressure, and herbal supplements that are applied to specific body
parts or tissues. They work in hospitals or private clinics and while treating
the patient they must be in a relaxing environment.
Salary: $61,000 per year
Education:
To become an oriental medicine doctor you must
earn a bachelor’s degree in biology or another medical related field. Most states
require students to work as an intern or apprentice for a specific number of

examination to become certified through the National Certification Commission
for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

Reflection: I don’t think I would
like to become an oriental medicine doctor because it’s not a field that
interests me.
